Malayali girl Shamna Kasim aka Poorna owes the steady rise in her career graph exclusively to the Telugu film industry. Shamna, who made her debut as a heroine in M'wood only last year — despite her presence in the industry for a handful of years now — is arguably the hottest horror heroine these days in T'wood. The success of her recent horror thriller Avunu, the actress says, has prompted many scripts in the genre being offered to her.
And now, Shamna informs us that she has just signed on her next film in the Telugu film industry — a horror thriller at that. Says the actress, "Avunu's stellar run at the BO and the positive response from the audience was such that most scripts coming my way from Telugu have been from the horror genre! Though, I was cautious about my next signing. Okkasari Avunu Okkasari Kaadhu will be my next horror thriller in T'wood." Asked if the film is a sequel to Avunu, Shamna says, "It's entirely different and the plot revolves around two friends. The film will start rolling by June."
Meanwhile, closer home, Shamna has Aaru Sundarikalude Kadha (ASK) ready for release. "The film has me in a totally different role from the Anglo-Indian girl Julie I essayed inChattakkari. Initially, I was offered a bold character (which finally went to Lena) but I insisted I be given the role of the possessive wife in the film; for, I didn't want any similarities with Julie in my second film," she insists. Shamna has also been signed on to play the lead inPoomathe Ponnamma, where she'll play the title role of a folklore singer.
